Find and lost
July 2014 to June 30, 2015
A picture captures a moment in time, which is sometimes all that is left. This encounter with Zehavit created a profound friendship; we connected from the first second we met. Our connection became even deeper with the discovery of cancer in Zehavit. On July 20, 2014, after the illness was discovered, we met for a photo shoot and a soulful conversation in my studio. In this darkened space a new intimacy was created between us, including conversations about the betrayal of the body and the strengthening of femininity. In November 2014 we met again for another photo session in the deep and warm darkness, where we talked about dreams and pain. On June 30, 2015, we met at Zehavit's home. Without the strength to drive to the studio, Zehavit asked me to photograph her in the space under her apartment. There on the floor below the house columns we spoke about hope and retention of femininity - her sense of ephemerality and the desire to feel needed. Zehavit did not let go of her yearning to be beautiful and feminine until her last moments. Zehavit passed away on August 22, 2015, a month and a half after our last photo shoot.
This series is dedicated to Zehavit.
